Installation Guide

Practical advice for preparing, hanging and finishing Glitter Walls fabric-backed glitter wallpaper. For the best possible finish, we strongly recommend using a professional decorator.

Our biggest tip of all

While experienced home decorators can install our wallpaper successfully, we strongly recommend using a professional decorator for the best possible finish.

Inspect The Wallpaper

Before installation, carefully inspect all wallpaper panels to ensure there are no issues with the glitter finish or backing.

Once the wallpaper has been cut, pasted, or installed, we are unable to accept returns or consider claims on materials that have been processed in any way.

If you identify a fault prior to installation, please contact sales@glitter-walls.com and include clear photographs.

Pro Tip: Always inspect the full length of each drop before hanging — not just the first metre.

Use Glitter Walls Adhesive

We recommend using Glitter Walls Adhesive exclusively. It has been formulated for our fabric-backed glitter wallpaper to ensure correct adhesion and the best finish.

The adhesive is supplied at the correct viscosity and should not be diluted or altered. Ensure the room is well ventilated during application and drying.

Pro Tip: Do not hang into wet adhesive — allow it to go fully tacky for better grab and easier positioning.

Clean And Prepare

Ensure the wall is clean, dry and smooth, with no holes, loose material or dust. All existing wallpaper should be completely removed.

The wall should be uniform in colour before hanging. We strongly recommend applying a stain blocker or sealer, especially when installing lighter colours.

Pro Tip: A sealed wall provides more even tack and helps prevent future shade variation.

Check For Hot Water Pipes

Before installation, check the wall for hot water pipes. Poorly insulated pipework can generate heat that may lead to discolouration over time.

If hot water pipes are present, ensure they are adequately insulated before hanging.

Pro Tip: If unsure, allow the wall to cool fully before installation and check for pipe heat by hand.

Apply Adhesive To Walls

Apply Glitter Walls Adhesive evenly to the wall using a pile roller, with a brush for edges and corners. Allow the adhesive to dry until tacky to the touch.

Do not allow adhesive to come into contact with the glitter surface at any stage.

Pro Tip: Keep hands, tools and surrounding surfaces clean to avoid transferring adhesive onto the glitter finish.

Hanging The Wallpaper

Work with lengths of approximately 2.5–3 metres per drop. Roll out each length and inspect it again before hanging.

Always hang the wallpaper in the same direction. Hanging in different directions can cause slight variations in shade or appearance.

Hang straight onto the wall, allowing an overlap of approximately 4–5cm at the top and bottom. Once positioned, leave the drop in place for around one hour to allow the adhesive to settle.

Prepare the next drop and butt it carefully against the previous length, aligning the edges so little to no seam is visible.

Pro Tip: Mark a true vertical plumb line for the first drop — never rely on corners being square.

Trim

Once the wallpaper has set and is dry to the touch, carefully trim the excess at the top and bottom using a sharp knife for a clean, precise finish.

Pro Tip: Change blades frequently — a dull blade can snag the fabric backing or leave rough edges.
